So, I told you that I’ve been obsessively looking at properties in the Lake Arrowhead area. I felt like I should share one of my absolute favorites. It’s off the market now, and I’m happy, because I will be crushed if all of this midcentury modern awesomeness gets bought up by someone else…

The floor to ceiling A-frame windows in this place are to DIE FOR.

Anyone who knows me knows that I would KILL for this fireplace.

I would also love to purchase this place with ALL the glorious mid-century furniture. Those couches and the lamps especially.

Vintage kitchen! I just wish the stove was vintage too.

And the beams, omg.

The bathrooms are not as great as vintage bathrooms go, but they're still cool.

You can't go wrong with wrap-around decks.

And top it all off with a yard for the dogs!

Now that it’s off the market I’m terrified that they’re going to do re-modeling and “updating” to try and sell this place again. Viva la time capsules!

  1. OMG those windows.. when I was a kid we’d make trips to the mountains I loved loved loved those A-frame homes. If I got my hands on one of these babies I would make it all kitschy and Alpine-y.

This decor for this house looks like what we had in 70s. I swear to God the blinds over the kitchen window are my mother’s old blinds. The bedspreads, the linoleum (or vinyl), the indoor shutters, the wrought-iron hardware on the kitchen cabinets, the dark wood panelling, the bathroom! — I hate it all. LOL!! Undoubtedly because this is what I grew up with. But I’m very happy to see somebody love it and I must say this particular examples is in very good nick.

I have a question about the mid-century label. I thought it applied to 50s, maybe 60s. Is that the era we’re looking at here? Or does it include 70s?

OR…Maybe we were just behind the times. Yeah… that sounds about right!

    • You’re right, midcentury is ’50s and ’60s. This was built in ’64, I’m guessing the decor hasn’t much changed from then?

  2. I love love love the design of this house. It reminds me of place I used to go to in the Adirondacks, decor and all. So comforting.

I grew up with the Hand-me-Down-Furniture of my Grandma, because my parents were dirt-poor, and this is pretty much what we had. Therefore: Hate it. Especially the Linoleum. I would give these things away for free and do what you would probably hate me for: make it purist and Scandinavian.

  4. I love everything about this EXCEPT the carpet in the bathroom. I cannot handle that That would come up in an instant. Otherwise, amazing.
