11 of my favorite geeky food makers, molders, and servers

If you know anything about me, you know that I love geeky food ideas. So I’ve rounded up some of my geeky food wares and appliances today. (Not surprisingly, these are either things I actually own, or want to own, or have gifted to people and regret that decision now…)

1. Pi Pie Pan

Pi Pie Pan - geeky food ideas

Obviously we have to start with the best damn thing to make pie in… the PI PAN! See more examples of what you can make today in my other post over on Offbeat Home.

2. Death Star Waffle Maker

Now you can destroy the Death Star every morning with the Death Star Waffle Maker! (I’m kind of completely obsessed with this thing.)

3. Dragon Cake Pan

Or you could slay dragons with your mouth in the most delicious way… with the freaking dragon cake pan!

4. Dragon Egg Canister

Speaking of dragons… Think Geek has created the my favorite cookie jar, the Game of Thrones Dragon Egg Canister modeled after Rheagal’s egg!

5. The Chemist’s Spice Rack

No matter what you’re making, all your meals will benefit from geekery with the Chemist’s Spice Rack.

6. Sunny Egg Mold

7. The Nessie Ladle

The Nessie Ladle is just about the cutest and scariest ladle to ever roam the depths of your soup pan.

8. The Pastasaurus

Or serve up a scare with the Pastasaurus pasta server! Grrrr Arrrrg Yummmm.

9. Star Trek USS Enterprise Sushi Set

What does Star Trek have to do with sushi? Absolutely nothing, except for the fact that there exists a USS Enterprise sushi set, and it’s seriously the perfect way to each sushi.

10. Lego Cake Mold

The building blocks of any good meal?… Actual building blocks. Or, at least tiny cake molds of actual building blocks. How cool would this be for desserts at a Lego-themed birthday party?

11. The Keyboard Waffle Iron

What do you get the girl who already has the Death Star Waffle Iron? Hi, I would also like the Keyboard Waffle Iron too, please, thank you.

Okay, what are YOUR favorite ways to make geeky food?

Rey cosplay and Death Star waffles

I’ve been getting back to my geeky roots lately, and it involves two of my favorite things: Cosplay and waffles. Wanna see what I’ve been geeking out on? First, and most importantly…

Cosplay

A few months ago, Mike’s mother, Valerie, asked me if I’d be interested in her making a Rey costume for me. She had just seen the Star Wars trailer, noticed that Rey’s costume didn’t seem too hard to make, plus there was slight resemblance, so… Would I be interested in “something like that”?

My reaction was something like this…

Over the next few months Valerie started gathering up clothing, fabrics, and old purses to strip down to their leather-y bits. Every now and then she’d text me pics of what she’d found. And every time I got a text from her, I was all…

Then, apparently, she took it to the next level by dying the fabrics and clothing she had found, and even enlisting her amazing husband to help. Here they are making the staff from items purchased at Home Depot…

Then, last week, Val appeared with a car-full of fabric and crafting supplies, and we got to work. Of course, by “we” I mean, I sat working for the Empire, while Val worked at her sewing machine, every now and then going back and forth taking my measurements and then scurrying back to the sewing machine. Until she somehow created this masterpiece…

Happy Star Wars Day! Like how this blog oscillates between sad sack shit and nerdery? Here’s some of both

unnamed

I went back to my best friend Ken’s Star Wars show, Jedi Alliance. Fun backstory on this show: I’ve hit some major emotional speedbumps recently. I texted Ken that I was not-so-much excited to chat about Star Wars when bigger shit was going on in my life.

But you know what… I did fucking did, and it was great.

My first time at Wondercon

My whole con outfit: cat dress, Han Solo boots, Tauntaun purse.

My whole con outfit: cat dress, Han Solo boots, Tauntaun purse.

I know this is late in coming, but I’ve been SLAMMED lately. So, a month, later: here’s my write up about Wondercon. For those of you who don’t know about it (which is probably most of my readers: hi family), Wondercon is like a mini Comic Con — ALL about comics. I was worried I wouldn’t have as much fun as I would at a more broader-focused geek convention since I know NADA about comics. You know, besides whatever Hollywood turns into blockbuster movies. But, since I was tagging along with a group of people whom I adore (the Schmoes Know gang) I wasn’t too worried too much.

Turns out, there was NO need to worry at all. I had a fucking BLAST. There’s just something about the energy of geek conventions that’s like a drug for me. I’m never more excitable and happy then I am when I’m with a HUGE grouping of people who are feeling comfortable being excitable and happy about dorky-ass-shit.

Things overheard at Wondercon:

Our Merry Finleyquistmas

Here’s a quicky about the my first Christmas without ANY family. The Finleys spent it with our best friend Coco Rosenquist — hence the “Finleyquistmas” name.

We spent Christmas eve with Oliver and Marianne:

The next morning, aka Christmas, I got up before everyone else, turned on our fireplace, and spent the morning with my fur babies…

GeekWire fails and Rock Box wins this time in Seattle

So here I sit at the Africa Lounge in the SEATAC airport on a FOUR HOUR flight delay. All my work has been done and I find myself with a rare moment to blog a *gasp* personal blog! Also, I’m not good at sitting quietly by myself, I need something to do. And, in honor of yet another geeky time in Seattle, I will fill it with doing something nerdy like blogging.

Yes, I came to Seattle, once again, with a strictly geek purpose in mind. This time Ariel, Stephanie and I teamed up to attend the GeekWire Gala. Honestly, Stephanie and I flew our asses out to Seattle in the midst of the holiday shuffle for the sole purpose of experiencing what the “4 reasons to go to the GeekWire holiday gala” email described “as a full scale mock up of a mos eisley spaceport cantina bar, complete with star wars aliens.” Who WOULDN’T fly … well … ANYWHERE to experience that. Hell, I even bought mahself an spacey new dress for that particular experience. But when we got there… there was no such thing. Not even close. Basically, at some point between booking our tickets and the actual party the “full scale replica” had been downgraded to “Catina bar-inspired lounge.” Which basically meant, a black couch and a glass coffee table. hmmmmm… Total Fail.

BUT! The trip wasn’t a total bust. There was fun photo booth action with Star Wars characters. And obviously I got to spend some awesome time with my amazing co-workers/friends, Ariel and Stephanie and had a blast doing this…

Getting excited for my Nerdy Thirty

Over a week ago Coco reminded me that my “dirty thirty” was coming up soon. To which Aaron interjected, “With Megan, it’s more like her nerdy thirty.” And thus, a theme was born! I have since sent out evites and invited a few of my closest buddies to my “nerdy thirty” birthday party…

Since then I have had a week to make it all to come into fruition. A couple days ago I did some birthday preparatory shopping and it just got me even MORE excited. Aaron and I were shopping for toys and we were BEYOND giddy about all the cool things we found, running up the aisle and exclaiming “oh cool!” “whoa check this out!” and “is $150 too much for a Lego Millenium Flacon?” (Yes, we decided it was, but not without much back and forth.) But mostly we were in the market for Nerf guns. I was inspired by a wedding I shot recently where Nerf gun fights were erupting everywhere and it was SO MUCH FUN!

The best part of being an adult is that you get to buy all the toys you want!

Here are a few more things that I’m excited about:
