I can’t believe I forgot to post this a while ago!
So, I got the absolute bestest birthday present of my lifetime from that wonderful guy I married. He contacted a bunch of my closest friends, family, and co-workers and asked them to participate in a special Nerdy 30 birthday video:
Highlights:
* The Star Wars scrolling intro.
* Special art work by Bill Nye the Science Guy.
* Oliver’s video that made me cry.
* Daren sending in his video from an Airborne Toxic Event tour.
* Stephanie and her friend drinking at the airport and singing me happy birthday.
* Erik being… Erik.
* Ariel and Tavi’s catchy tune (also Ariel’s boobz!).
* Aaron’s laptop theme.
* All the scenes from Olvera Street where Aaron spent a day collecting awesome trinkets for my other special birthday present.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this movie. I’ve watched it a countless number of times now and I’m always BLOWN AWAY by the amazing people that I am lucky enough to be friends with. Wow. I’m one freaking lucky 30-year-old. I LOVE YOU ALL!

A few years ago Aaron and I were going through an extremely bad year, financially, so I had to cut back on my Christmas gift spending. I managed to pull off ALL the family gifts for under $20 and it was one of my favorite gift-giving years! This year we are in that very same boat. So I’m working my butt off trying to find awesome gifts for everyone under $20.
I got a lot of gifts for people from Fiji where everything was super affordable, but I also am managing to find a few other things on the internets here and there. So, here, if you are interested, is my 2010 holiday gift round-up.
[Spoiler alert: If you are family member, you may not want to read if you want to be surprised at Christmas time!]
Dude! Lego pens! They’re 100% functional and made from Lego so they’re totally customizable and they’re $13.95 from Etsy seller derekseiple. Nerdy and convenient. Love.
Genius! I’m super stoked about the Page Keeper. I bought a few of them (one for mahself) because I’m pretty sure that these are perfect for almost everyone who likes to read and they’re freaking $8 each, but the more you buy the more you save!

While Aaron’s friend shopped for a legit Valentine’s Day present for his lady friend, Aaron decided to pick up some silly gifts for me. At first I got mad when he told me that got me “presents” but when he started pulling them out and presenting them to me I changed my tune…

First he shows me these rose petals and was like, NO! Not cheesy as Valentine’s day shit! But then he turned it over and showed me that the label says “Dried Leaves.” He thought that was too funny to pass up.

It’s December! And that means another round of furious internet shopping for the perfect xmas gifts. This year, while finding the perfect gifts for everyone on my list, I’ve found a LOT of other cool stuff that I thought I’d share with you.
Coin storage from Molla Space

I love this thing, I think it’s a great gift for guys to leave by the front door or bedroom for when they empty out there pockets. It comes in white and black.
Adopt-A-Creature from Oceana
If you’re looking for the perfect gift for me, anything from Oceana will do. I especially love these sea creature cookie cutters that use the money from them to help adopt a sea turtle or shark.
Design your own decorative home accessories from Jonathan Adler

This is super pricey, but super cool if you can afford it. You can even design your own rug!
Flash drives!

Flash drives are way useful and now they keep coming out with cooler and cooler designs to make them into more personal gifts. Like the Star Wars flash drives for your favorite geek. Or a credit card sized flash drives for the man in your life. And Swarovski crystal flash drives for the fancy lady in your life.

So, I’ve had enough people ask me about what to get me this xmas that I thought I’d put together this gift guide. (Oh, if only my husband would do the same.) While I was looking for gifts for other people, I came across some things that I absolutely loved. I thought I’d post them here for anyone who feels like buying me anything.
Plus, WHO KNOWS, maybe you’ll find the perfect thing for someone else in your life.
Of course there was this original post about things that I want. All of those still apply, except for the shark tooth necklace! My cousin Katie jumped the gun on even me buying it for myself and got it for me as a “thank you” for her photo shoot.
And the best part about these things… they’re all around $35 and below!
For my health:

My Fitness Coach for the Nintendo Wii. Around $20.
For my coffee habit:

The I Am NOT a Paper Cup cup. $16.
For lookin’ pretty:
A gift certificate to my favorite jewelry store Rockabella jewels.
Cute initial necklace from Urban Outfitters. $18. I’ve been wanting some cute little charm with an “F” on it ever since I got married.
A set of four vintage bobby pins. $28. From Sproutstudio‘s Etsy shop.
For the home:
Shark fin salt & pepper shakers. $32.

Anything from the Animal House collection of kitchen and home gadgets. (We actually have all the things pictured, just fyi. But there are so many more cute things!)
Nautical charts of the Hawaiian Islands. $26. From oceangrafix.com
For covering my body:
Awesome printed tops from SuperMaggie.com. $20-$40. I especially love the ocean creature prints and the shirt dresses.
Admiral Waffle Hoodie from American Eagle. $25.
In the same vein, anything from the Deadworry collection on Shanalogic.com. $15-$30.
Spanx in all colors and patterns. $26. Love ‘em.
For my convenience:
Open it — 5 tools in 1 to open anything! $10.
For charity:
Adopt a sea turtle or shark and get these adorable cookie cutters! $35. From Oceana.org
Or you can always take the advice from a friend of mine, “anything orange, Star Wars or Hawaiian.”
And stay tuned for my next gift guide filled with awesome finds that aren’t just Megan-specific. Doing these are fun!
Got a bad case of the “I WANTS!”

Okay, I don’t know WHAT is going on with me right now…

I want this mirror, or a mirror like this:
I found it on Craigslist, (actually, I found it on a design blog who found it on Craigslist) and again it’s only $30, which I think is a super decent price for these types of mirrors.
My birthday shoes!

My best friend (and co-maid of honor) Amy is an amazing artist — she paints, she photographs, she draws, etc. And for my birthday this year, after I mentioned wanting a pair of Toms shoes ONCE a few weeks ago, she got me a pair and then customized them with her artwork…
Nothing saves a marriage more than expensive gifts…

Found this “article” through @marriageguide (who decided to follow me on Twitter) called “Together, Forever – Five Great Pieces Of Advice For An Undying Marriage.” I thought hmm, that title sounds pretty epic. I’m gonna check out these 5 GREAT pieces of advice. Maybe I could even learn something. Not only did I NOT learn something, I was actually OFFENDED by the “article.”
According to the writer, Jo Alesto, here’s the #2 thing that you can do to save your marriage:
Special gifts counts
For husbands, it is best if you give your wives special things that they will treasure forever. It doesn’t mean that even if you’ve been married for more than ten years now, special gifts don’t count anymore.
If, back in your wedding day, you failed to give her some of the most precious wedding jewellery available, now is the time to regain your score. A beautiful set of pearl bridal jewellery is not a late gift after all. You can still give your wife some good pair of stud earrings made of pearl and make them a part of your family’s heirloom.
WOW.
Okay, okay, spelling and grammar mistakes aside. Still… WOW.
I guess my husband FAILED on our wedding day. I mean, all he gave me on our wedding day was the most amazingly fun day at the beach. But, that’s just a memory that I can “treasure forever” and not the kind of physical treasure that I can wear around my neck and show all my friends just how much my husband loves me because he spent loads and loads of money on jewelry! Because those are the only “special things” that count. But the good news is that he can correct his massive fail at any point in our marriage, if he wants to be “together forever” that is. WOW.
