An extraordinary day

Yesterday was one of those beyond wonderful, life-affirming days. At one point I even started making a list of all the great things that had happened. Here’s the boring run-down of an extraordinary day…
I got to wake up and have breakfast with my mom AND that guy I married. This may sound lame, but I never get to spend much time with either of those people. So it felt really great to be hanging out over cups of coffee and pieces of toast.

Peezu and Jack tired after a day of playing.
I went with my parents to visit my grandmother and help her get ready for her home re-do. I brought along my dogs and they got to play in a yard for the first time since June! There was lots of running like crazy, lots of rolling around on the grass and lots and lots of playing fetch.

Gen getting some last minute work done on what makes her tick.
In between playtime and grandma time, my dad and I finally picked up Gen, the VW bug. I filled out another check for good ol’ VW Joe, who felt so bad that I was spending so much cash that he didn’t even charge me tax this time.

Dad drove her back to my grandma’s and while on the way back, on her first time back on her feet, I watched as a guy riding a really super vintage motorcycle pulled up next to my dad, took a long look over his shoulder at Gen and gave dad the raised “right on” fist. It was an adorable moment that got me really excited about how fun Gen’ll be to drive.

Ah, driving! Ready for the best of the best of my day? More

I need to do a LOT of blogging. I have posts and posts in mind:
* The life-changing salad.
* A trip to the farm. (Maybe those can be combined…)
* My Nerdy 30 highlights
* Something I started writing about High School and then stopped.
* Other things
So as I start to get busy and get writing, here is something fun to tide you over. It’s from my recent trip to Texas to visit my father.
Here is a picture of a restaurant on Lake Granbury:

Here’s let me zoom in:

Post-Thanksgiving thanks

(Because I think it’s more meaningful on any other day other than Thanksgiving.

The table set by my mother.
We had a little mishap the day before Thanksgiving… my grandma checked herself into the hospital because of some severe pain, turns out that it might have been caused by something she ate, oh well, at least she’s okay! But that threw our plans out the window because we all were supposed to just show up to her place and dig in. For some reason, my sister and my mother both contacted ME to ask what we were going to do now. That was strange to have happen, but I decided, we’re doing the damn thing at Camp Tharpe.
So, at around 9pm on the night before Thanksgiving, there I am shopping for all the fixings by myself while my dad went to LAX to pick up my mother and Aaron relaxed with the dogs after our 2 hour and 20 minute drive from LA to OC.
My first attempt at turkey-buying was thwarted when I walked into Albertsons and got completely overwhelmed by the selection. WAY too many brands in so many different sizes with all these different options… Butterball, Honeysuckle White Tom Turkey, Free Range, Kosher, Tofurkey, Turducken… there were bins and bins of dead turkey bodies from which to choose.
I abandoned my cart and ran out of the store.
I went to Trader Joes. And THANK DOG there were only FIVE turkeys left. I grabbed the biggest one, scooped up some frozen mashed potatoes and a bunch of pies.
Anyway, long story short, we pulled it together, which the late night shopping and my mother’s cooking we pulled off an awesome (possible last) immediate family Thanksgiving. And I’m actually really thankful for that. It was nice to have all the usual suspects together and having a good time.
Plus watching my parents play Modern Warfare (or as I call it “World of Warfare) was awesome! I’m thankful to get to see that.

My dad playing his first video game ever.
And I’m thankful for having my darling dogs…

Oh, and I'm thankful for my new iPhone too.
And I’m thankful for Coco for letting me borrow her boots!
Vegas bound…

So today I have one of the busiest days EVAR. I just finished packing for my trip to Vegas. Then I have a client meeting tonight to check out the wedding location in Huntington Beach. I’m making Coco go with me because she’s gonna be my 2nd shooter. Which is all good and well, because she had to be in Orange County anyway. So since I’m hitching a ride to the OC with her, that means I get to accompany her on a shopping/lunch date, then cower in the lobby of her dentist’s office, then to the client meeting, then to dinner with her dad and then she’s going to drop me off at my folk’s place. Wew, that’s a lot of stuff to do today. And half of the clothes I’m wearing are hers! (I don’t have cute stuff for client meetings on my own.)
So, yes, I’m going to Vegas with my dad for the next three days. We going to check out the Sema Convention. Which is the Las Vegas Convention Center just PACKED with cars and car related stuff. It should be fun! Plus we get to see our family members that live out there.
I imagine my “packing for Vegas” experience is not very typical of most girls. My bag just consists of ONE pair of jeans, a bunch of t-shirts, my purple converse and Rainbows. No “cute tops,” no sexy bottoms, not even ONE pair of heels! And if you think I only pack that way because I’m going there with my dad… think again. The ONE time I actually went to Vegas with “partying” in mind (read: the most miserable experience of my life) I had to borrow “going out” clothes from the girls I went with. Much like today, when I had to borrow cute client meeting clothes from Coco!
Anyway, cheers and I’ll see ya when I get back from Vegas, hopefully with a bunch of good car photos!
