Enjoying LA, my friends, and vodka in sippy cups

Yesterday was one of those “I fucking LOVE living in LA” days. For my buddy Jessica’s birthday (psst: check out her new home line!) she and her husband organized a group hike around the Lake Hollywood Reservoir. This was exciting for me, as I had never explored this part of my hometown before. Once, Aaron and I went looking for it, got lost, and wound up at the Hollywood sign instead.

The lake is GORGEOUS. Just about the cleanest water I’ve ever seen in LA proper. The walk around most of the lake is fenced, until you come to the bridge…

Exploring parts of my home town I've never seen before!
After the hike we grabbed a picnic bench at Lake Hollywood Park and hung out for HOURS! Seriously, I think we spent five hours just eating, drinking, and lounging in the alternating shade and sun.

I actually made something to bring. At the last minute I whipped up a vodka lime-aid mix and then added fresh-squeezed lemons, leaving some of the slices in the mix. I thought that I may be drinking it alone, as people would probably be bringing fancier drinks. But no! It was a total hit. I was so fucking pleased.

I drank it out of my special froggy sippy cup.

In true “yupster” fashion, we had a ridiculous picnic of healthy and home-made culinary delights: muffuletta sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches (I ate four), quinoa and kale salads, watermelon slices, some kind of bean and veggie salad concoction, carrot cake in jars, salt and browned butter Rice Krispie treats, and home-made cola for rum and coke cocktails.

It's actually rum.

I reunited with one of Jessica’s oldest friends Morgan. Turns out we both do the same thing — freelance bloggers. She’s gone the mommy blogger route, and I’ve gone the wedding and home route. But we spent a lot of time gossiping about the internets.

I can’t even believe what a great day that was. And, miracle upon miracles… I didn’t even get sunburned! 🙂 My next plan of action is grab that guy I married and take him to see Lake Hollywood.

Ooh, maybe we’ll do that when Alex and Lisa get here next weekend!

But now I’m off to watch tonight’s episode of Game of Thrones with my buddy Ken.

Khaleesi out.
