Stop everything and look at these planet plates!

planet plates

What are you doing right now? Stop doing it, and look at these planet plates. Better yet, buy these planet plates.

Yeah, I said “planet plates” because that’s a thing now! The Unemployed Philosophers Guild (best biz name ever) makes this set of eight melamine plates featuring freaking watercolor portraits of the planets in our solar system. T

hese plates are also lightweight so that means you can bring them on your nerdy picnics this summer, or just use ’em at home to impress your guests. (Dibs on Uranus!)

planet cups

Oh holy crap there’s planet cups to match!!!

I’m totally in love with both of these, and I’m betting a lot you will feel the same. Snatch this whole set of plates for $39 ASAP, before they get declassified as plates.

Meditation chairs that are easy on your back and your eyes

meditation chairs

Prompted by my therapist, I’m attempting to take up meditation. I’ve cleared a spot in my second bedroom in which to get my ‘tation on, but I’m finding it difficult because the floor is so uncomfortable. I have back problems and need more support than those zafu/zabuton sets that I’ve seen in Yoga studios. (Besides, I’m not into any traditional methodology here, just a gal who’s been told I need to make time to clear my mind.)

So I’m on the lookout for some good meditation chairs. Because lawdy lawd, I need every bit of help I can get to try and help me pull this off.

I thought of using a Back Jack, but they just don’t get my juices flowing aesthetically. Here are some potential meditation chairs that DO…

Snow White’s Los Angeles tiki-style bungalow

Can we take a minute to talk about our dream homes? I believe we all have (at least) one, right? You know, that one house that you always drive by on your way to work/the grocery store/your favorite vacation spot. That one house that you day dream about owning. You know… if you suddenly came into a million (or more) dollars. That house?

Well, torture upon tortures, my dream house is on the market right now.

Oh and did I mention that this house has been teasing me with its awesomeness ever since I was a child? And it’s no wonder that the house stood out to any kid. The history of it is that it was designed and built by Adriana Caselotti — best known as the voice of Snow White in the original 1937 Walt Disney production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Of course, when you’re a kid that means you grow up thinking “that’s the house that Snow White lives in!” Now, the shoddy logic of why THE Snow White would chose to live in a small bungalow in the middle of Los Angeles instead of in a castle in the woods was lost on a young Megan. But still, the house was magic to me.

So, when I saw there was an open house I jumped at the chance to go and –Jesus-bisquits! — it’s EVEN COOLER THAN I EVER IMAGINED inside!

How I cheat at organizing

Well, it’s a coincidence that organization should be the theme today, because Thursdays are the day that the house keeper comes over! Now, my housekeeper isn’t just anyone, she’s one of the most important people in my life. Weird huh? I even have a post about her that I’m working on. Here’s an except to explain a little about her…

Elsa Trinidad has been my family’s house keeper since I was a child. She’s seen me go through grade school all the way through college. She’s met every boyfriend and she’s seen me get married! (Well, she couldn’t technically see me get married in Maui because she didn’t want to fly over water. But you get what I’m saying, right?) Little Elsa has been there — this quite, calm, sweet presence for almost as long as I can remember.

Since Elsa’s been helping me out at my apartment my whole life has seemed better organized. And when she’s not here… everything falls to shit. I swear, she hasn’t been here since I left for Fiji and this place was AWFUL. But now it’s clean, so I don’t really have anything to organize house-wise.

Instead, I’ll just share a picture of what my apartment’s living room looks like NOW… post-Elsa…

Hey look it's my living room AND office! And it's clean!

Punk Rock Chalk Cock

So my sis-in-law, Michelle, and I have had an running joke about decorative roosters ever since Aaron tried to sneak a gigantic rooster into our wedding registry. Well, Michelle has been threatening to buy a rooster for us for a loooong time and this year she finally did it! ARG! It kinda looks like this…
Now as far as kitchen cocks go this one ain’t so bad! I like the chalkboard aspect. But… it was still a little too “country kitchen” for our crazy artists’ space that we call our apartment so Aaron suggested a “punk rock makeover” for our Chalk Cock.

Well today, while I was tidying up, I noticed that somehow we’ve come into ownership of a spray paint can of metalic silver paint. And I thought… it’s time for Chalk Cock to get de-countryfied.

Check out Chalk Cock’s new look! And thanks again Michelle!!!

My first inspiration board

I’m helping my friend Erik decorate his apartment. So I put together this inspiration board using only things from Target & Ikea…
erik's inspiration board
drapes from Ikea – shower curtains & matching towels from Target
bedding from Target – decorative pillow from Target
blue dishes from Ikea – brown chair from Ikea

I really like the way this turned out! I think this green, blue and brown color scheme could work well for any guy in his mid-twenties looking to decorate his first bachelor pad!

MAUI march ’07 (new decorating project)

Aloha again friends.

I went back to Maui for another working/decorating trip. This time my mom and I decorated my cousin’s guest house/future pool house from scratch! So I spent most of my time going back and forth from Home Depot to Lowes to Walmart to Kmart to Ross and then back to Home Depot.

This is how I spent most of my time in Maui…
